Brian Smith visits local Sports Media Enthusiasts

Delaware native Brian Smith, the Philadelphia Flyers Public Relations Assistant, took time out of his busy schedule to visit Wilmington University’s campus in New Castle on Friday night. Smith visited with the Sports Media Relations class to share his knowledge and his experiences of his profession. Starting with where he began his career, “…on a broken down bus,” Smith joked. He laughed about how all the packed bus rides and run down motels made him not take the job that he has today for granted.

The class members consisted of only about twenty students all eager to pick the brain of Smith trying to learn more. Professor Brian Cunningham, former Philadelphia Eagles Public Relations personnel, kept reminding the class how scarce of an opportunity it is to have Smith, or a man of Smith’s stature, sharing his knowledge with them. “Sometimes it’s not what you know, but who you know” Smith stated, “First impressions stay with many people in this profession.” Smith talked for nearly two hours, sharing his knowledge and experiences. The class is very appreciative of Smith’s time and wishes him the best in the future.
